Dreams

I have very strange dreams.  Sometimes I just remember I had a strange dream without remembering very much of the content.  I wake up several times in the night, good sleep is hard for me to achieve.

Here were my dreams last night:

1.  I dreamt of my second boyfriend (who was one year younger than me, and died tragically about 5 years ago).  In my dream, he was alive, but was at home with me orally intubated and on a ventilator. I was taking care of him.  But for some reason, I was doing something at his bedside, and he started to fall out of bed. I helped him to lay flat of the floor, and his endotracheal tube came out.  I yelled for my mother to come in and help me. At this time, my boyfriend also turned into a pediatric client. I attempted to place an NG tube first (although I should have replaced the endotracheal tube, airway is more important you know).  My mother encouraged me on the angle of insertion.  Instead of inserting the tube through the nose, I started inserting it into the corner of this baby's eye.  As I couldn't advance the tube, I asked my mother if it was supposed to go into the nose...  She responded in a way that made me feel stupid.  So I removed it altogether and started intubating this baby.  I did a nasal intubation and guided the tube through the trachea, asking my mom to get the cotton tie ready...   And that was the end of crazy dream number one.

2.  I also dreamt of a nurse I work with putting in an IV.  She inserted the IV in the foot.  Nothing too strange for an emergency.  It was the way she was applying the dressing that was strange.  It is similar to how nurses use chevrons to secure an IV catheter.  Except for this nurse, it was more like tying a shoe.  She wrapped a string around it, made a knot, and started pulling each side of her string to make it tight, and the IV popped right out, and she was pissed.  At this same time, I think a spider or something was biting my ankle, and I woke up with a sharp prick in that area, which I thought an IV was being inserted too.

As for dream number 3, I can't remember it, but I know it was weird.

These dreams at least make a little bit of sense.  I also have dreams that are very bizarre and sometimes do  not make any sense at all.

When I was working as a pediatric home health nurse, I had a couple strange ones about babies.  In one, I was a blue bird in a tree.  I had a daycare business of baby sitting for about 10 other baby birds.  For some reason, it was up to me to change the oil in all the birds (like how you would change the oil in a car).  However, I ended up losing a couple of the birds, and no oil was changed.  It's hard to comprehend for me as well, but I can still see the picture very clearly when I think about it.

Last dream description:  I was with my favorite pediatric client, a little more than a year old, at their house.  There was a supervisor from my company who wanted to meet with me, my client, and the mother at the park.  The supervisor and mother left before I did in a van.  When I realized this, I quickly put my client in my car and started driving to the park.  At a stoplight on the way, someone opened up the back door and snatched my client and took off on foot.  So I opened my console, grabbed my handgun, and went looking for the baby.  My plan was to steal my client back, and rush to the park, telling the mother and my supervisor that I had hit traffic on the way.  There was no way in hell I was going to tell my client's mom I lost her baby!  I was successfully able to retrieve my client after firing some shots off from my gun.  We eventually made it to the park, but I left our adventure out of the story when I explained why I was late.
